Responsibilities:

Purpose and Summary of position: 

  • Partner with Celanese sales and field development engineers to identify new application opportunities for EVA, Elastomers and other thermoplastics in medical devices via key customer engagement, technical exchanges and voice of the customer sessions.
  • Translate customer requirements into product requirements and partner with R&D teams to develop product formulations, processing know-how, application and testing technology, part design and prototyping and solution qualification at the customer
  • Engage with the program management team to advance the projects through the milestone process including required IP strategy, regulatory approvals and risk management
  • Promote CE differentiated products and technologies via trade shows and conferences
  • Develop into a subject matter expert for polymer applications in medical devices 6. Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to drive technology roadmap for medical device applications.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Deep understanding of the applications and material specification process in the medical device industry including tubing, bags, controlled release devices, injector pens, COPD, inhalation devices.
  • Experience with processing technologies including extrusion (tubing, blown film), compounding and injection molding of thermoplastics for medical device applications.
  • Understanding of polymer structure property relationships, techniques for property modification with formulations/additives and ISO/ASTM test methods for properties
  • Familiarity with medical device regulations and approvals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Broad understanding of medical device industry including trends, customers, solutions, value chain, decision makers, development cycle etc.                                                 
  • Ability to engage cross-functionally with sales and field development engineers to identify projects through VOC, other R&D teams to develop the product, manufacturing to scale-up and marcom, FDE to validate the solution and qualify the product.                                                           
  • Ability to influence the strategic technical direction and roadmap for CE in medical device business     

Required Years Expereince:

  • 10+ years identifying, developing and commercializing new products and applications of thermoplastics in the medical device industry

Required Education:

  • Msc/PhD Polymer Science/Engineering or other technical degree with appropriate experience
