The Product Development Leader will lead a team of product developers to take new products from concept through commercialization. The key activities include: engage customers to clearly define customer CTQs (Critical-to-Quality), idea generation & screening, formulation development, application tests development, qualification at customers, scaleup to mass production, and translation to new applications. The candidate will engage T&I (Technology & Innovation) leadership and key cross-functional stakeholders (sales, program managers, business leaders) to ensure products are developed and commercialized to meet customer needs and within the timeline and budget. The person will also work closely with customers in understanding their needs, qualifying new products, and supporting technical exchanges. Key metrics include sales to new products and idea pipeline robustness.
Deep understanding of polymer structure propert relations and modifiction of properties through fillers, additives; ability to translate customer needs to product requirements; Prior experince in developing product formulations that meet thermal, mechanical, chemical and other properties; knowledge of analytical and physcical test methods; ability to engage with manufacturing to scale-up products; engage with molders, tiers and OEMs as needed to support product qualification; obtain agency approvals (UL, NSF etc) as needed; ability to leverage statistical tools including design of experiments and design space; basic knowledge of IP processes including memorandum of invention and patent filing; track record of commercializing new products; execution focus to manage project milestones, timeline, and resources;
ability to motivate and coach team; ability to influence key business leaders; excellent communication and presentation skills ;
interpersonsal skills to collaborate with cross-functional team with external customers.
Direct Experience in twin screw compounding process and scaleup;
Experience in injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, wire coating, welding;
Experience in developing application test that are relevant to customer's applications;
Working knowledge of analytical characterization techniques for rheological, mechanical, thermal properties
Six Sigma and Statistics;
At least 10 years of experience in an engineering thermoplastics company or division of which at least 5 years should be in a team leader/manager role
Ph.D. in Polymer chemistry, Polymer Science or Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science .
