Overview:

Celanese is seeking a Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety who will lead the Shelby site’s Stewardship (Environmental, Health and Safety) systems and culture through people engagement, ownership of programs, and influence. Provides technical expertise, proactive actions, systematic services, and consultation on program/policy execution. Acts as a coach and mentor to all site personnel in effective EHS processes and principles and is an active member of the site leadership team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, sustain, and improve programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and Celanese requirements to be executed and followed.
  • Completes internal and external assessment of program execution, develop and administers feedback measures, then reviews results for drift prevention and future alignment.
  • Act as an expert to serve the site in executing the programs.
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure permits, licenses, reporting, and responses  are accurate and completed appropriately.
  • Engages all levels of the organization around Stewardship - Leads from the front as a highly influential person.
  • Maintain the hazard, near miss, and incident reporting system to ensure appropriate investigation, classification, and follow-up actions have been assigned and completed.
  • Ensure timely completion of gap closure for incidents across all core operation through the use of root cause analysis.
  • Spend time in field to ensure safety behaviors are meeting expectations.
  • Review all new projects, process changes, and new product transfer packages for potential safety, health, environmental and/or security issues, and ensure resolution prior to plant implementation.
  • Evaluates stewardship-related hazard reports/Near Misses, improvement ideas, share with the teams and ensure implementation.
  • Subject Matter Expert and gatekeeper of life critical policies for the site.
  • Site representative and owner of Carolina STAR qualification and program requirements.
  • Acts as Human and Organizational Performance Learning Team Site Champion.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Safety Related Field, Engineering, or Environmental.
  • Minimum 7 years chemical manufacturing experience with 3 years in EHS role.
  • Working knowledge of air/water/waste regulations, permitting, and reporting, and experienced in interactions with regulatory agencies.
  • Strong leadership competencies and ability to champion issues, ideas, and initiatives.
  • Ability to influence across all departments to drive a comprehensive stewardship culture.
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
