R&D Technician

Overview:

The R&D Technician is responsible for accurate set-up and execution of R&D trials and all supportive aspects of producing product. The role includes raw material preparation, pilot line operation, and clean-up. Documentation of process parameters, critical notes of trial work, and material organization is essential. This role will also support the molding department as needed to produce specimens for testing. 

 

The R&D Technician is cross functional working with the molding department, testing lab, engineering, and production to accomplish required tasks. 

 

This role is an on-site role in Winona, Minnesota.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and execution/operation of pultrusion line, extruders, and supportive equipment for R&D trials
  • Assist with design and implementation of new equipment
  • Responsible for recording and documenting any relevant processing information during execution of trials
  • Gathering and blending of all required raw materials for R&D trials
  • Keep the R&D process and equipment area clean and organized (following 5S protocol)
  • Operate equipment and process in a safe manner
  • PM checks and routine maintenance on required equipment
  • Review and understanding of the policies and procedures contained in standard operating procedures, hazardous       communication and waste disposal procedures.
  • Assist with transferring new product and process technology from R&D to production.
  • Assist with composite panel molding and specimen prep
  • Injection molding specimens for QC and R&D evaluation

Environmental, and physical requirements of this position include

  • Working in confined spaces around 300 - 700-degree Fahrenheit extrusion equipment
  • Working at elevated heights, regular climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Regular crouching
  • Ability to wear a partial respirator to protect against dust and fumes
  • Ability to lift 55-pound bags (floor to chest),
  • Frequent walking, standing and reaching in front of body
  • Functional sensory skills, i.e., hearing, sight, speech, smell and feel, full use of both hands, handling, good finger dexterity
  • Ability to deal with hazardous situations and materials, and effective communication skills. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience required.
  • Manufacturing experience with thermoplastic processing and Pultrusion preferred.
  • Basic computer skills - able to work with Excel, Word, Access database.
  • Hands-on, mechanical, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Self-motivating, good communication skills, ability to work in a team environment, positive can-do attitude.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Experience with Injection Molding.
  • Functional / Technical skills.
  • History of working safely.
