Overview:

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and motivated Government Relations Professional to join our U.S. Government Relations Team (Washington, D.C.). The position’s responsibilities are tied to developing, and executing U.S. federal and state strategies to promote Celanese interests. The successful candidate must be able to multitask, and prioritize concurrent projects in a fast-paced and evolving environment. In addition, the candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills to ensure alignment among internal and external stakeholders. This hire would report to our Director, Government Relations.  

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, track, and communicate regulatory and legislative developments and emerging trends internally and externally helping to shape policy outcomes.
  • Attend trade association meetings, actively participating on relevant committees, and represent Celanese views effectively.
  • Be able to manage and attend fly-ins on Capitol Hill and at State Capitols with Celanese leaders.
  • Work with Government Relations colleagues and business leaders to determine policy impacts and company positions.
  • Work closely with Corporate Communications Team to highlight relevant projects with internal and external audiences.  
  • Assist in PAC related responsibilities including preparing  quarterly, and bi-annual lobbying and PAC reports (LD-2 and LD-203), drafting quarterly newsletter, administrative tasks, and attending political fundraisers as needed.
  • Develop and strengthen Celanese Government Relations relationships with internal and external stakeholders, advancing the company’s reputation.
  • Track and ensure responses to internal and external requests, often across Celanese departments.  
  • Initiate and staff elected official visits at Celanese facilities.
  • Assist and support other team members with special projects as needed including permits and tax incentives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Political Science, Public Policy, Chemistry, or related fields.
  • 4+ years of related experience in government affairs or public policy on Capitol Hill, Federal Agency, State Capitol, Trade Association, or Company (combination a plus).
  • Registered federal lobbyist designation, or willingness to do so.
  • Work experience in federal/state advocacy in some combination of relevant issues: transportation, sustainability, energy, labor, tax, trade, chemicals management, security.
  • Established network on Capitol Hill with Committees of relevance, State Capitols, Trade Associations (The National Association of Manufacturers & American Chemistry Council), and Federal Agencies.
  • Ability to disseminate legislative and regulatory updates in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Experience with manufacturing related tax credits and grants (45X, 45Q, 48C).
  • Willingness to travel (~10%).
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint and graphics.
  • Experience drafting memos and presentations.
  • Exemplary people skills with an ability to build support on issues both inside the company and with outside stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong ownership and work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met.  
  • Excellent organizational, technical, analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets, work experience, and qualifications.  The expected salary range for this Washington DC position is between $114,000 and $153,900.
