Overview:

The Celanese legal team is looking for a midlevel litigation attorney to support Celanese’s global litigation practice and compliance program. The position is based out of Celanese’s headquarters in Irving, Texas.  We are looking for an attorney with experience handling complex litigation dockets and managing internal compliance investigations to join our team. This attorney will be responsible for managing litigation across numerous jurisdictions, including a variety of US state and federal courts, international courts and arbitral bodies. The preferred candidate will be expected to manage outside counsel who litigate matters on behalf of the company across a wide range of matters including complex commercial, product liability, competition, personal injury, employment, and regulatory litigation. The attorney will also assist with the Company’s global ethics and compliance program, including compliance investigations, training programs, policies, and workshops. The position has significant in-house client interaction with a broad range of personnel across the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex legal dockets with multiple cases in a wide variety of jurisdictions.
  • Partner with colleagues within legal and across the organization to proactively avoid or minimize legal exposure related to litigation risk.
  • Work directly with outside counsel to develop litigation strategy and supervise the implementation of that strategy by attending depositions, hearings, and trials and reviewing written submissions and communications.
  • Help with the preparation of quarterly reporting materials, including preparing summaries for the company’s external auditors and board of directors and updating senior management within the Company.
  • Assists with development, communication, benchmarking and revision of policies and procedures for the general operation of the global compliance program.
  • Investigates alleged violations of Company policy and/or misconduct received via the ethics hotline and other channels in accordance with internal investigation protocols and guidance.
  • Strategizes on resolution of difficult legal compliance issues and training and training strategies across the company.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate required and must be admitted to the practice of law and active and in good standing in at least one US state.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a law firm or a combination of large corporate environment and law firm.
  • Law firm experience required; in-house experience is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with product liability and toxic torts, and especially asbestos, preferred.
  • Experience with conducting depositions, witness interviews, trials, arbitrations, etc., preferred.
  • A proven ability to lead teams and organize people preferred.
  • Strong interest and focus on project management and continuous process improvement.
  • Preparation of effective, concise communications and presentations for executive-level use.
  • Very comfortable working in an environment of a global company with international transactions, across time zones and cultures, effective communicator.
  • Comfort in a very team-oriented environment and ability to work well with broad groups of stakeholders in different departments within the company.
