Overview:

The Senior I&E Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and reliability of electrical equipment and infrastructure at the Celanese Pensacola Plant.  Additional responsibilities include managing the development, updating, and implementation of equipment strategies, identifying and justifying equipment upgrade opportunities, supporting facilities improvement projects, and stewarding the site safe electrical work practices.  Electrical equipment at the site includes AC and DC motors and motor controls, VFD’s, DC drives, medium and low voltage power circuit breakers and switchgear, and power distribution systems at the 480V and 15kV levels.

Responsibilities:

Primary Functions

  • Work in a team environment with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel
  • Ensure safe, cost effective, operable electrical equipment and associated systems are provided and maintained to meet current business unit needs
  • Specify new electrical equipment to comply with industry and company design practices
  • Provide assistance in the field during plant start-ups, shutdowns or upsets as needed
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance for plant electrical installations
  • Provide quality control during maintenance outages for electrical equipment
  • Manage the development, updating, and implementation of equipment strategies for electrical equipment
  • Lead electrical infrastructure plan development and improvements
  • Drive electrical infrastructure improvement projects and steward recommendations to site management team
  • Provide technical support for front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, and startup for projects, change packages, and turnarounds
  • Develop/review electrical contractor work scopes while incorporating site best practices and standards
  • Ensure all projects and repairs meet local codes and regulations i.e. IEEE, NFPA 70E, NEC etc.
  • Willing to be available outside of normal working hours to occasionally serve as technical consultant
  • Translate technical problems into business risk while communicating a case for action for mitigations or proposed solutions
  • Assists in the development of maintenance / operating procedures and technician training
  • Provide Root Cause Failure Analysis expertise and support as needed for equipment failures

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • At least 7 years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with IEEE, National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA standards
  • Experience with industrial plant electrical power distribution systems at 480V and 15kV levels
  • Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power circuit breakers and switchgear
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis training / experience
  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC) in a manufacturing environment

 

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • High level of knowledge on NFPA 70E Electrical Safe Working Practices
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC motors and motor controls
  • Ability to design, program and troubleshoot AC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Knowledgeable on electrical power system studies, with demonstrated ability to interpret load flow, short circuit and arc flash studies and follow-through on study recommendations
  • Thorough understanding of electrical single line diagrams and ability to update as needed
  • Strong analytical & troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of an organization and maintain productive vendor relationships
  • Knowledge of basic economics and justification calculations
