Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on Analytical Chemist to join our team in providing analytical testing support across Celanese divisions. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in general, analytical, and organic chemistry, along with practical experience in various analytical techniques such as thermal or rheological analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy, chromatography, or wet chemistry. A strong commitment to laboratory safety and chemical handling is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare samples and perform routine analytical procedures
  • Analyze data, prepare detailed reports, and communicate results to internal stakeholders
  • Conduct routine instrument maintenance and minor troubleshooting
  • Follow written standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASTM, VDA, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal customers and global lab team members
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results
  • Support method development tailored to customer needs
  • Identify potential sources of experimental error and implement controls

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field preferred
    • Completion of coursework in general and organic chemistry; additional coursework in polymer or materials science is preferred
  • Experience working with engineering polymers or plastics
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret data, and communicate findings through reports and presentations
  • Strong understanding of safe laboratory practices and chemical handling
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of independently managing tasks and working both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shift priorities
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Capable of performing minor equipment repairs and maintenance

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with polymeric materials and their properties
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as:
    • Spectroscopy: NMR, FTIR
    • Chromatography: GC, LC, GPC
    • Thermal Analysis: TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA
    • Microscopy: SEM, optical microscopy
    • Mass Spectrometry: MS
    • Intrinsic Viscosity (IV)
  • Ability to select appropriate analytical techniques for problem-solving
  • Understanding of structure–processing–performance relationships in polymers
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and method validation (e.g., Gage R&R)
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation abilities
