Overview:

This is an in-person, onsite position located at: Mylar Specialty Films, 5401 Route 1, Richmond, VA

 

General Operators are required to work an 8-hour rotating shift schedule in the Slitting area or 12 – hour rotating shift for the Coating Area, which will include weekends, holidays, and overtime.

 

OVERALL FUNCTION:

Individuals and teams are expected to operate, maintain, and improve their process, material flow and equipment in performing their work. Operating the process to standard operating conditions, testing, light maintenance, administrative tasks, troubleshooting the process, and managing facilities improvements when needed are all essential parts of, but not limited to, managing their overall role and responsibility.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 Slitting Area

Slitting operators have overall responsibility for the output of the slitting machine and assistance to adjacent operators to maximize efficiency of the finishing area slitting line. This is accomplished by, operating by SOC, (as available) produce quality products to customer specification per order, ie: Type, width, footage, hardness, etc. Produce a maximum of production with a minimum of rejects/waste and quality defects.

Maintain accurate production and other administrative records, manage breaks, down time and inventory accuracy using the PICS system.

 

Coating Area

To operate by SOC, make splices, thread up, start tower and make production changes, make corrections to coating weight, controlling bath level and circulation, and adjusting bath and dryer temperatures and related support equipment.

To handle coating bath solid waste and film waste, maintain accurate production and other administrative records, manage breaks and down time and to take film samples and record results and release for use.

 SAP will be used to manage the inventory, and the local area network will be used to manage the quality data.

  • Understand and follow all plant and area safety rules and procedures pertaining to the safe operation of the facility.
  • Manage their overall role in a way that is conducive to the success of the business.
  • Operate, maintain and improve their portion of the business.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to work with others and maintain good interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain security of information, including written, verbal and implied.

 

Functional Skills:

 Slitting Area

  • Set up machines safely according to Celanese procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand measurements to slit film to specification.
  • Will be required to audit film while winding to ensure quality product is being released.
  • Must be able to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while in work area.
  • Will be required to work overtime as demand requires.

 

Coating Area

  • Follow Celanese Procedures to safely operate a Coating tower which will have flammable solvents present.
  • Will be required to run Quality test/checks during operation to ensure customers’ expectations are met.
  • Will be required to wear Flame Resistant Nomex in the Coating Area for 12 hour shifts along with other required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.
  • Will be required to be clean shaved to don a respirator needed during solvent handling.
  • Must have time management skills as the Coating Area is a 24/7 operation without designated stop/break times.
  • Must be able to work in hot/cold conditions and walk stairs repeatedly during a 12-hour shift.
  • Will be required to work overtime as demand requires.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must understand and follow all plant and area safety rules and procedures pertaining to the safe operation of the facility.
  • Willing and able to work (a) a rotating shift schedule and (b) overtime.
