This is an onsite, in-person position located at: 8480 DuPont Road, Washington, WV 26101 

 

The Washington Works Senior Engineer, Environmental Compliance is a key member of the Site Environmental, Health, Safety, and Stewardship Team.  This position is the "go to person" for all Waste Disposal Operations and Shipping, DOT issues, ISO 14001, EPCRA (SARA) Reporting, and Environmental Continuous Improvement Programs.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulations for safety, environmental protection, environmental reporting, inspections, packaging, and transportation 
  • Documentation: Maintain records of waste profile forms, storage area inspections, disposal requests, and shipping paperwork 
  • Waste management: Oversee waste-related activities, including processing, loading, and disposal
  • Audits: Participate in and lead audits and assessments 
  • Policies and procedures: Develop and approve waste-related policies and procedures 
  • Reporting: Create and approve required waste-related reports 
  • Training: Provide training on hazardous waste regulations and guidelines 
  • Emergency response: Create and implement emergency response plans for hazardous spills or releases 
  • Waste profile sheets: Develop waste profile sheets for in-plant generated wastes 
  • Knowledge of regulations: Demonstrate a general knowledge of RCRA and DOT Regulations 

Qualifications:

  • REQUIRED

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science
    • Minimum 5 years of applicable environmental experience; demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience interacting with Regulatory Agencies including EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), DEP (Department of Environmental Protection)DOT (Department of Transportation)
    • Knowledgeable in hazardous waste shipping
    • Previous experience working for one or more of the following: Industrial environment, state agencies, and/or federal agencies.
    • Ability to learn and work independently.
    • Ability to work with others involved in a variety of functions including operators, mechanics, engineers of various disciplines, management, and other leaders.

     

    HIGHLY DESIRED

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Chemical Engineering
    • Experience interacting with Regulatory Agencies including WV DEP (West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection), FRA (Federal Railroad Administration), and NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission)
    • 6 or more years of applicable environmental experience; demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • General knowledge of RCRA and DOT Regulations
    • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies
    • Experience at a regulatory agency
