Overview:

Celanese’s Cellulose Acetate manufacturing facility in Narrows, Virginia, colloquially known as, “Celco”, rests on the banks of the New River.  Celco has manufactured Cellulose Acetate in various forms since 1939 and has a rich history as a cornerstone of the larger community.  Situated in the greater Blacksburg area, Celco employs approximately 1000 full time and contract employees.

The Baling Reliability Engineer provides the technical expertise on all matters of reliability engineering, assessment, and monitoring for all Baling process equipment as a key part of the operations organization.  This position focuses on enhancing equipment reliability through analysis, along with some first response, day-to-day troubleshooting of equipment problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to high standards in safety and quality of work
  • Ensure unit is operating at entitlement reliability targets and anticipate potential emerging issues
  • Develop department reliability program, ensure proper execution, and drive continuous improvement
  • Utilize reliability engineering tools including; vibration, lubrication, root cause failure, and bad actor analyses to deliver holistic improvements of production waste, lost production opportunity, and maintenance cost
  • Provide technical and engineering support on mechanical, electrical, and controls equipment
  • Active participant in site Management of Change process, including generating MOCs for improvement work and reviewing other’s MOCs for reliability needs
  • Develop capital project scope and justification as needed and support Project Engineering Department in implementation
  • Develop technical capabilities of operations and maintenance 24/7 teams

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field from ABET accredited university
  • Entry level applicants accepted
  • 2+ years industry engineering experience preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, low voltage electrical systems, and PLC control systems a plus
  • Ability to learn and work independently
  • Ability to work with others in a variety of functions including operators, mechanics, engineers of various disciplines, management, and other leaders
  • Ability to apply reliability engineering methods for equipment and process reliability improvement
