Responsibilities:

Tech III Mechanic

Our site in Hopewell, Virginia, is currently seeking a qualified Maintenance Mechanic Technician.

The Maintenance Mechanic Technician will maintain and repair all types of industrial equipment efficiently, professionally and in the safest means possible. The successful candidate will have experience in trades such as rigging, welding, milling machine, lathe, pipe fitting, and maintenance shop equipment operation to successfully complete assigned tasks and troubleshoot equipment issues. The Maintenance Mechanic will perform inspections and overhauls on production and process equipment. This includes gearboxes, pumps, air and hydraulic cylinders, process rolls, utilities equipment such as air compressors, steam boilers, water chillers, convey systems, and packing equipment.

 

This position is located at: 3600 Discovery Drive, Chester, VA 23836

 

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm

 

Pay: $36.79 (non-negotiable).

After 12-18 months, the Tech 3 Mechanic will become an official “Shift Mechanic” and will be required to work 12-hour, rotating shifts (7:30am -7:30pm, then 7:30pm- 7:30am). The employee will receive a pay increase when they become Shift Mechanic (after 12-18 months).

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of a 4-year Apprenticeship program or similar training program in Industrial mechanic trades such as millwright, pipefitter, welder, boilermaker, machinist
  • In lieu of a 4-year apprenticeship program, one of the following will be considered:
    • 2-year degree in a mechanical maintenance program w/5 years hands-on industrial mechanical experience
    • minimum of 10 years hands-on experience in the industrial maintenance field
    • minimum of 4 years military experience performing in a multi-craft mechanical maintenance role and 3 years industrial mechanic experience
  • Must be very mechanically inclined.
  • Must have relevant working experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing industrial machinery using various hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Ability to operate computers daily and learn new computer software systems to input data into the Maintenance Management System
  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule including overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hardhat, Nomex, protective eyewear, face shields and arc protective clothing.
  • Willing and able to obtain a powered industrial truck certification, i.e. fork truck and possess a valid and current driver’s license.
  • Willing and able to do the following: lift 10 lbs. frequently, 25 lbs. regularly and 55 lbs. occasionally; work outdoors at varying heights, in tight and confining spaces; climb stairs and ladders.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • 10 years of industrial maintenance repair experience
  • Experience performing a job safety analysis and equipment lockout safety procedures.
  • Journeyman Pipefitter Certification and or Millwright Certification
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent Manufacturing Operations software.
  • Experienced with operating a fork-lift.
  • Welding Experience

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operating shop equipment including a lathe, milling machine, drill press, pipe threader, band saw, sheet metal shear, handbrake, and rollers.
  • Performing basic welding repairs using Tig, stick, MiG (not code).
  • Operating powered industrial vehicles, i.e. fork trucks, man lifts, scissor lifts, etc.
  • Installing, replacing, and repairing pipe using screw fittings.
  • Performing coupling, process roll and machine alignment using dial indicators and laser alignment technology.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling of work during plant shutdowns.
  • Repair and polish Chrome process roll surfaces using hand tools and dalic (electric plating) equipment as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and overhauls on production and process equipment.
